Amazon has recently launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) system aimed at simplifying the process for delivery drivers to find packages in their cluttered trucks during deliveries.

At a media event in Nashville, Amazon announced that this technology will project green circles on the packages to be delivered whenever a shipment arrives at a delivery address, while marking the next package to be delivered with a red cross. Named "Visual Assistance for Package Retrieval" (VARR), the technology began development in 2020, and is set to be equipped in 1,000 Amazon delivery vehicles next year, expected to shorten typical delivery times by 30 minutes.

This tool utilizes computer vision technology originally developed in Amazon’s warehouses for product recognition, eliminating the need for barcode scanners. After some adjustments, it has been designed to fit into the narrow cargo areas of delivery trucks, integrating seamlessly with delivery route navigation software.

In a press release, Amazon stated, "Delivery drivers no longer need to spend time organizing packages, reading labels, or manually checking customer names and addresses at every stop.
